Q&A: Designer Jules Moore | Swim & Loungewear

4.8.13

I'd like to introduce and share the lovely Miss Jules Moore - Designer, Stylist, Model and Editor. She really is a woman of all areas and a very inspirational one as well. I've learned so much from working closely with Jules during our styling editorials with Palm Springs Life Magazine this past year, you can see hereNot only is she an amazing mentor/friend but also a very talented designer from cover ups, caftans, kimonos, to swim wear all based in beautiful Palm Springs, California.

Jules Moore is an avid traveler and a New Zealand native. Her favorite time is 'Lounging' - reflecting, growing, inhaling, socializing, laughing, snoozing - being.

Enjoy this special Q&A with our muse + all images of amazing J u l e s M o o r e product!

Q: When did you realize you wanted to start a swim line?
A: I was laying in a resort in Mykonos watching people walk around the pool. I started imagining them in different gear. I then went to the resort store to find a 'Cover-up'. I wanted to get something that took me from poolside to dinner...and swimwear I could lounge all day in. I found nothing simple - timeless and elegant. They were quite loud and harsh. Very loud patterns that seem to make ones face disappear.  I wanted soft pure and beautifully made. Simple, strong yet feminine. So I started drawing my own. I then went to India and Sri Lanka to source silks. On making my first Cover-ups... I wanted Swimsuits that embodied a similar feeling. I fell in love with the pieces. I fell in love with wearing them.

Q: How would you define the style your swim line exemplifies?
A: Lounge wear line...transporting. I want women to float and feel wonderful. Fabrics that move in a breeze and flatter their skin. Swimwear that has beautiful lines, simplistic elegance with little
unexpected twists of playful. Beautiful fabrics that work and you can really swim, play & lounge in!

Q: What are your favorite colors to work with and why?
A: I call them Dusty Shades... 'Milk Infused Shades'. Take a color and pour milk in to it.  It takes on a Pastel Jewel tone. I like to compliment skin.

Q: Where can readers buy your swim line?
A: shop.julesmoore.com and also at selected boutiques this Summer in New Zealand, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Palm Beach, Nantucket, The Hampton's and St. Tropez.

Q: What are some of your fashion goals?
A: Quality Not Quantity. I will continue to 'change it up.' It's a lot more expensive to produce, but I'm a 'One of a Kind' type of Person. Men's swim/lounge wear is a passion, so that's on the horizon.

Q:Where do you get your inspiration?
A:Travel .... people and the environment. Every place I go, every person I meet.... I'm inspired by everything! Each cover-up is named from a feeling of a place. Each swimsuit after women I have met.

Q: What other experience do you have in the fashion industry (stylist, retail, marketing, etc.)?
A: Interior Design and Advertising is where I kicked off...Furniture design and then set decorating & prop/wardrobe styling for all media. I have an agent in Los Angeles that books me for creative direction and set design/wardrobe & prop styling for Ad Campaigns. And of late, the contributing Fashion Editor/Stylist for Palm Springs Life.

Q: Where can readers find out more about you and your work (shop)?
A: My personal website shows my Styling and design work.
